Our heritage, our faith, our community.
The Komath Sri Guru Badrakali Temple is an ancient place of worship dedicated to Goddess Badrakali, the fierce and benevolent form of Parvati worshipped widely across Kerala. The temple traces its origins to over 300 years ago, established by the Komath family lineage as their ancestral (tharavadu) deity shrine.
According to oral tradition, the deity was consecrated following a divine vision received by the family's patriarch, who was guided by a sage to install the Goddess at this sacred spot along the riverbank. For generations, the temple served as the spiritual centre for the surrounding villages, conducting the renowned Meena Bharani festival which draws thousands of devotees annually from across Kerala and the diaspora.
The temple follows the Tantric tradition of Kerala, with daily rituals performed according to the Tanthrasamuchaya. The consecrated idol of Goddess Badrakali in the standing posture is considered to be of considerable antiquity and has been a source of blessing and solace for countless devotees over the centuries.
The temple was rebuilt and consecrated anew in 1987 under the guidance of the Travancore Devaswom Board and with contributions from devotees worldwide. A major Kumbhabhishekam was conducted in 2009, renewing the divine energy of the sanctum.
